Upcoming week is key for Fluco season

The Fluvanna boys’ basketball team opens Jefferson District play and it doesn’t start off easy. That’s why this is a “Strong Team Realtors Key Week.”

FCHS starts to defend its 2011 Jefferson District regular season championship as both Western Albemarle then Monticello comes to town this week.

Western Albemarle is seen as a possible dark horse in the district. The Warriors increased curiosity by beating Charlottesville in the fifth place game of the NBC29/Daily Progress Holiday Tournament. While the win doesn’t count for district standings, it sure caught eyes around the area.

WAHS is led by Ben Turner on the inside. This year Western has relied on youth, for the second year in a row. Mostly sophomores throughout the regular rotation, the Warriors have used press to speed games up.

Monticello returns backcourt duo of Jhalil Mosely and Denzel Terry with a high octane offense. Also coming back is outside shooter Kevin Archer.

The Fluco bunch is currently 8-1 on the year.

The entire Strong Team Realtors Key Week will be broadcast on the Fluco SN. Broadcasts are slated to begin approximately at 7:30 p.m. on the respective days.
