Redd steps down from football helm

PALMYRA — Fluvanna’s head football coach, Rodney Redd, resigned Wednesday according to a press release from the school’s athletic department.

In the release, athletic director Scott Morris stated that Redd left to, “pursue other directions.” The resignation caught the administration off guard and was completely a decision from Redd.

In the press release, Morris said, “We here at Fluvanna are very sorry and saddened to see Coach Redd leave us after one year, we wish him the best in what ever direction he moves in and appreciate his year of service at FCHS.”

Redd took over a football program that was in disarray in a Jefferson District that has football powerhouses throughout. Redd, a previous assistant at Monticello, posted a 3-7 record in his only season at the helm.

Fluvanna will immediately begin a search for a replacement but the school administration is not ready to discuss anything else related to the search. Most people believe the search will rely on an internal hire because of the lack of teaching vacancies being filled in the Fluvanna County Public Schools system.
