High scoring first half powers the Flucos

PALMYRA — The Fluvanna boys’ basketball team used a fast and furious first half on way to a 75-45 victory over visiting Kettle Run Wednesday night.

“If we continue to play like we did tonight, we’ll give some people some trouble,” said FCHS head coach Munro Rateau.

Fluvanna trailed 2-0 before taking control of the game and never looked back. The Flucos sped the pace of the game through forcing turnovers and having senior guard YaYa Anderson dishing the assists in bunches.

“I was very surprised because usually we get off to a slow start but we got off to a good start tonight,” said wing player Vinny Agee.

The Flucos scored 27 in the first quarter then another 23 points in the second frame to have a 50-19 advantage into halftime. Lintecum scored nine points while Anderson hit five 3-pointers in the first 16 minutes.

“That surprised me we got off to a quick start because of their size. We made shots, we passed the ball, we ran the court and we did everything we wanted to do to have a great game,” said Rateau.

A sluggish third quarter still didn’t derail the FCHS game. While only scoring 11 points, the Flucos only gave up just 10 in the frame.

“If we can get going, it is the senior leaders. If we can get everybody ready to go, ready run the floor and we hit shots, it gives [the younger players] confidence they can do what they have to do. It makes it a lot easier for everybody,” said Lintecum.

Anderson lead all scorers with 18 points, all coming from behind the arc. He hit his first six treys while missing his seventh try. Anderson also dished seven assists while grabbing four rebounds. Lintecum finished with 11 points, four rebounds, two assists and two steals. Freshmen Jalen Harrison and Agee had 10 and eight points, respectively.

“Taylor is like the Eveready Battery; he never stops, he’s always moving. As a result of that, he gets open. The post players are getting better. We’re getting better as a team and that’s what I was hoping for,” said Rateau.

Next up for Fluvanna (7-0) is Orange in the Fluvanna Christmas Bash. Game time is set for 8 p.m. at the Shoebox and will be broadcast on the Fluco SN.
