CHARLOTTESVILLE — Fluvanna boys’ basketball couldn’t stop the Monticello transition offense in a 74-54 Mustang victory.
“We’ve been digging a hole for us the last four or five games and been able to recover. Tonight we dug that hole and we just never could recover. They just beat us up and down the floor,” said FCHS head coach Munro Rateau.

Down 54-42 at the start of the fourth quarter, senior YaYa Anderson hit three 3-pointers to open the frame on a 9-2 FCHS (No. 2 AA AP) run. With the game at 56-51, a Monticello timeout ended the run. MHS would end the game on a 18-3 run.
“We made a run to make it 56-51 with five minutes to go then they called a timeout. Their kids responded and we didn’t,” said Rateau.
The Mustangs scored 22 points in transition offense including two breakaway dunks.
“If we don’t get back on defense against the athletes they have, they are going to shoot layups,” said Rateau. “We just didn’t get back.”
The Flucos (16-2, 5-1 Jefferson District) never led in the game and only tied the game twice. The first time being at two points and the second at eight points.
“The season is not over. Same situation as last year, we came up here and lost and didn’t lose again until the state semifinals. That’s the attitude we’re going to take and we’ll be back on Monday,” said Rateau.
Anderson led the way for FCHS with a game high 25 points. Taylor Lintecum put in 10 points while Vinny Agee scored nine.
Next up for Fluvanna is Western Albemarle on Jan. 31. The two teams are tied atop the Jefferson District with one loss apiece. In the first meeting between the teams, FCHS won 67-47.
Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. in Crozet. The game will be broadcast on the Fluco SN.
