PALMYRA — The Fluvanna County High School boys’ basketball team will start gearing up to defend last year’s Region II Div. championship and state tournament run.
The Flucos will have some travel this year with one tournament away from Palmyra and games as far north as Nokesville, Va.
Fluvanna will close out the Shoebox this year before moving to the much larger new gymnasium at the new high school. Munro Rateau, sixth for active wins among VHSL coaches, returns a squad headlined by defending Jefferson District, Region II Div. 3 and co-Div. 3 state player of the year YaYa Anderson. Also from the starter corps from last year’s squad is Taylor Lintecum.
Rateau and co. will look to increase his career 454 wins as FCHS opens the season on Nov. 29 traveling to neighboring Goochland before making the trek to Spotsylvania on Dec. 2. The next day, Fluvanna hosts Kettle Run.

The stay in the Shoebox continues with Goochland and Cumberland on back-to-back days starting on Dec. 6. FCHS then heads to Lynchburg for the EC Glass Beacon Classic on Dec. 10. Fluvanna has a week off before going to Kettle Run then heading to Cumberland on Dec. 20.
After Christmas the Flucos have an extended stay at home. Two games in the Fluvanna Christmas Bash with the first on Dec. 27. Then FCHS opens Jefferson District play with Western Albemarle and Monticello on Jan. 3 and 5 respectively. Fluvanna’s final out of district game is EC Glass in the Shoebox on Jan. 7.
The Flucos hit the road for dates with Charlottesville and Powhatan on Jan. 10 and 12. Louisa and Charlottesville will visit Palmyra on Jan. 19 and 24.
FCHS will play Monticello and Western away on Jan 27 and 31 before a final regular season game in the Shoebox on Feb. 3 against Powhatan. The final game is at Louisa on Feb. 7.
Jefferson District Tournament play begins at higher seed on Feb. 10. The final two rounds are at Western Albemarle with the conclusion slated for Feb. 17 in Crozet.
First day of VHSL eligible practice is Nov. 7.
