The record-setting guard was offered nearly 20 scholarships from Division I schools throughout the East Coast but deciding to verbally commit to Big South member Radford.
The Highlanders will start the 2011-2012 season under the direction of first-year head coach Mike Jones. Jones was recently an assistant coach for Final Four finishing Virginia Commonwealth University.
Anderson was called up to Fluvanna’s varsity squad midway through his freshman campaign. Last year, his junior season, he lead the Flucos to a final four appearance of their own. FCHS lost to Waynesboro in the Group AA Division 3 semifinals.
Anderson making STATEments all the way to the top
Along the way, Anderson took Jefferson District, Region II Div. 3 and Virginia High School Coaches Association Player of the Year awards. Anderson grabbed state notoriety when he set a new Group AA record with 47 points. The outpouring tied the all-time record.
Radford went 5-24 last year, the final season of previous coach Brad Greenberg’s tenure. The Highlanders most recently won the Big South in 2009.
Anderson will join fellow Fluco graduate Tyler Drake at RU. Drake (FCHS ’10) plays for the women’s soccer team. Anderson will graduate from FCHS in May 2012.
